Y!

Filed under: Technically WWW, Technically... - S @ 2:15 pm

Yahoo! has long been, at least to me, one of the most underestimated service providers thats been around. I’ve used it for almost 8 years, just 2 years after its inception.. and one point that anyone will give it is that, it’s probably the reliable workhorse, with the best possible integration of services.

They may not be the first off the block when it comes to the ultimate features, like Gmail, or Blogger or even Amazon; though at one stage they used to be that entity as well.. but they are the site that allows beautiful integration with one id. Photos, mail, groups, briefcase, search, home page, messenger.. they’ve made it all part of just one id; and if you explore what they have on offer, its actually the real idea behind the connected world. Rather than managing a million accounts, think of one account, that can manage everything; and more.

I know, that in a competitive world, being the “good” service is just not good enough, but being the service that is just not realised… that’s another matter.

This sounds like a plug for Yahoo, I know, but when I heard of the acquiring of Flickr, the soon-to-be-launched 360, and this.. I realised Y! had done it again.

They’re still around, and its not going to be easy to knock them out.

Also: The origin of Easter Eggs. For anyone who was curious about why the oval reproductive body of a fowl got associated with spring festivals, or indeed, reincarnations.
