Talking of trends…

A trend I’ve noticed while surfing the 2 traffic increasers that I have, that people don’t put the content on top. I’m browsing, and I want to know what your site is about, I don’t just randomly wait for the number to flash ‘click’.

Nay, on top one finds crappy banners, silly flashy buttons, GIGANTIC title graphics.. in short everything that you don’t want to see when you open a page for the first time, especially when you can’t see the entire page immediately, due to the traffic header. Talk of a turn-off.
Almost gives me pleasure to click away from such a place.

Another peeve is that: for all the moderation that these sites are supposed to do (e.g. BE doesn’t want too much adult content), some sites that fall under the rotation are not even blogs. Spam-sites, commercial sites, product-selling sites(I mean both adverts, as well as blog-design).. and here I am waiting for 2 days for BE to approve my site. This has to mean someone actually comes to my blog to approve it; so then how in the world did these crappy excuses for blogs get into rotation ?
I’m getting a fishy smell about this one..

Rated - Absolutely unnecessary

Filed under: Technically Loud, Technically Cinema - S @ 1:37 pm

On the way here, a thought about the crappy movie rating system that goes on in India occurred to me.
Weirdly enough, the censor board rates a movie in one of only 3 categories : U, U/A, or A.
Now, while I will not debate the suitability of some material for kiddy watching, or even the fact that in any small cinema hall, these ratings don’t mean a thing; the sheer stupidity of the system boggles the mind.
They watch. And rate the movie. And recommend cuts. Which have to be done before exhibition. And which will happen regardless of the rating given.

This means that even a movie rated ‘A’ for only adult viewing, has editing done to it. “Objectionable” scenes are removed, and then the movie is passed with an ‘A’ certificate.
Even with cuts, the movie is not suitable for kids !
They are actually deciding what anyone watches in India.

There was controversy over ‘Saving Private Ryan‘, when Spielberg made a ‘no cuts’ policy. Either the entire thing, or nothing.
They still wanted to cut some stuff.. but luckily he remained adamant. And so ‘Saving Private Ryan’ was broadcast in entirety.

The policy is still the same. The fun part is the many protests that are made, as well as public outcries, about “inappropriate” movies. Which have ‘A’ certification. And which people go to see by choice.

I don’t why I’m writing this. Does it make any bloody difference ?

Something(s) handy..

Two useful links..

The trend of having an icon for your email contact, can be followed via this link.

And that little itty-bitty logo that you see next to the URL of a webpage in your browser, like can be made by you using this free Favicon generator.

You can also get it custom made.

An HTML reference is also pretty handy..
